A Word from a Flex Specialist: Tess Rens
Meet Tess Rens, Creative Content Specialist at Flexspecialisten. With her international marketing background and a healthy dose of creativity, she has been strengthening our marketing team since May. She aims to create content that resonates with the right target audience and makes an impact. In her role, she therefore combines creativity with strategy to convey the story of Flexspecialisten clearly and powerfully.
Let Me Introduce Myself
Outside of work, Tess enjoys staying active and regularly seeks out new challenges. For example, she recently took up road cycling—which, as she puts it, might be the result of a minor mid-twenties crisis —and she loves heading into the mountains for a nice hike. She also gets a real kick out of cooking and spending quality time with friends and family.
Trying new things and continuing to explore are right up Tess's alley. That curiosity is evident not only in her free time, but also in the way she approaches her work.
An International Perspective on Marketing
Tess’s interest in marketing literally took her across the border. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Marketing & Management at Christopher Newport University in Virginia. During the summer months, she worked as a marketer at a speedboat rental company in Greece. She then completed her master’s degree in International Business, with a specialization in Strategic Marketing, at Maastricht ’s University. During her master’s program, she participated in an exchange program in Brisbane, Australia, and worked on various marketing projects.
Those international experiences have shaped her perspective on communication. “I’ve learned to look at companies, communication, and target audiences from different perspectives.” This has been a valuable experience at Flexspecialisten, where we communicate daily with people from diverse backgrounds.
After graduating, Tess was ready for her next step, and she found exactly what she was looking for in the job posting for a Creative Content Specialist.
More Than Just Great Content
As a Creative Content Specialist, Tess is responsible for conceptualizing, creating, and refining content for various target audiences and channels—from social media, blogs, and email campaigns to campaign visuals, brochures, and other printed materials. She enjoys this variety: one moment she’s working on an email campaign for clients, and the next she’s creating a social media ad designed to reach potential flex workers.
For Tess, good content isn’t just about a beautiful design or compelling text. She wants to know what we want to convey, who we want to reach, and why the content is important to the audience. “To me, good content is clear, relatable, and relevant. It has to fit with Flexspecialisten and resonate with the target audience’s perspective.”
It is precisely this shift between different target audiences that makes her work interesting. After all, a client views Flexspecialisten through a different lens than someone looking for a new job. That calls for a different message and approach each time.
“To me, good content is clear, relatable, and relevant. It must fit with Flexspecialisten and resonate with the target audience’s perspective.”
Content That Sticks
In a market where both employers and job seekers have plenty of choices, Tess wants to ensure that Flexspecialisten stands out through its communications. Not by simply shouting louder, but by clearly showing who we are and what we stand for. “I hope our communications will continue to really stand out. That we’ll do things just a little differently than the rest, so that people will remember us and ultimately choose us.”
Tess views all communication as Flexspecialisten ’s calling card—both literally and figuratively. From a job posting or campaign that a potential flex worker sees for the first time to a magazine or mailing for clients: every point of contact contributes to the impression someone forms of Flexspecialisten .
“I hope our communication will keep getting more and more impactful. That we’ll do things just a little differently than everyone else, so that people will remember us and ultimately choose us.”
The best stories are created together
According to Tess, great content isn’t just created at a desk in the marketing department. It’s precisely the knowledge and experiences of colleagues who interact with clients and temporary employees on a daily basis that are valuable. “Colleagues know what’s going on with our clients and candidates and are familiar with day-to-day operations. By combining that knowledge with my experience in content and marketing, we can create stories that are authentic and truly resonate with the target audience.”
Collaboration therefore plays an important role in her work. Tess enjoys asking questions, brainstorming ways to improve or do things differently, and turning ideas from within the organization into concrete content. For example, a real-world experience, a question from a client, or a story from a temporary employee can serve as the starting point for new content.
That interaction also helps her get to know Flexspecialisten better and better. After all, to effectively communicate to the outside world who you are as an organization, you first need to understand what’s going on within the organization.
Keep Discovering and Growing
In the coming period, Tess wants to delve deeper into content strategy and measuring the effectiveness of content. She also wants to further expand her skills in the field of graphic design. “I try to keep developing myself by asking for feedback, reviewing results, and consciously analyzing why certain content works or doesn’t work.” Her goal is to better connect creativity with Flexspecialisten ’s objectives and the needs of various target audiences.
Trying out new ideas, learning from them, and then refining them: it’s precisely that process that energizes her.
We're thrilled to have Tess join our marketing team and look forward to all the creative ideas and content she'll bring!
