Good news for workers in the Netherlands: the statutory minimum hourly wage will increase as of January 1, 2026. For employees aged 21 and older, the minimum wage will rise to €14.71 gross per hour. That represents a 2.15% increase from the current minimum wage of €14.40.

How is the minimum wage determined?

The minimum wage is set annually in accordance with statutory regulations. This process takes into account general wage trends in the Netherlands. Adjustments from previous years are also factored in, ensuring that the minimum wage grows in line with the economy and purchasing power over the long term.

Exceptions to this rule are made only in exceptional circumstances, such as extremely rapid wage increases or significant changes in the number of benefit recipients. At present, this is not the case:

  • Wages are rising faster than prices,
  • Unemployment is low,
  • And the labor market remains relatively stable, despite the aging population.

What does this mean for you?

For employees and temporary workers, this increase means higher pay and a boost to their income. For employers, it is important to take the new rates into account in a timely manner when planning payroll and personnel costs.
